Philanthropy's Impact at Johns Hopkins

Visionary philanthropy is at the heart of the Johns Hopkins Institutions, where the tradition of giving goes back to our founder himself. Since 1873, generations have carried on a legacy of investment in support of teaching, research, and patient care, building Johns Hopkins into one of the most powerful engines for positive change on the planet.

In 2009, a new monument was erected on the Homewood campus to honor these philanthropic visionaries and celebrate the past, present, and future of giving at Johns Hopkins. On Homewood’s Alonzo G. and Virginia G. Decker Quadrangle, the Johns Hopkins Founders Wall stretches 104 feet long and is engraved with the names of some of the institutions’ most generous supporters. Looking to the future, the wall includes blank spaces to be engraved with the names of new generations of philanthropists.
