The Johns Hopkins “Knowledge for the World” campaign has come to an incredibly successful conclusion. Over its course, from July 1, 2000, through Dec. 31, 2008, more than a quarter-million individuals and organizations chose to invest in Johns Hopkins.
They invested in students and teachers. They invested in discovery. They invested in innovation that will enrich lives around the world for decades to come.
During Knowledge for the World, our friends and supporters:
-
committed $3.74 billion to Johns Hopkins, far beyond even our $3.2 billion goal
-
endowed 550 scholarships and fellowships
-
endowed 92 faculty chairs, one deanship, one directorship and one curatorship
-
supported the construction or renovation of 4.2 million square feet in 24 buildings around the world
Day in and day out during the campaign, so many alumni, parents, patients, foundations, corporations, and other friends of Johns Hopkins – including many of our faculty, students, and staff - gave generously to The Johns Hopkins University and The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System.
Gifts to this campaign were a 21st century extension of the 19th century legacy of our founder himself. They were a renewal of Mr. Johns Hopkins’ vision that investing in talented people with brilliant ideas can change the world.
Donor support has made Johns Hopkins a leader in confronting the most pressing challenges facing our world. Thanks to the efforts of alumni and friends, Johns Hopkins will continue to expand the frontiers of understanding, deliver the benefits of discovery, promote health and well-being, care for the ill, and make the world a safer and better place in which to live.
Much like Mr. Hopkins, Knowledge for the World donors have positioned Johns Hopkins to continue, even in a tough economic environment, to address unprecedented challenges and meet exciting new opportunities through discovery and the pursuit of new understanding.
Now more than ever, Johns Hopkins, with support from donors, will continue to ask the tough questions and share what they learn as knowledge for the world.
